More than 10,000 Md. debt cases dismissed

A Maryland judge has dismissed more than 10,000 debt cases as part of the settlement terms of a federal class-action lawsuit against Midland Funding, a debt-collection agency.

Maryland District Court Chief Judge Ben C. Clyburn threw out 10,168 debt-collection cases against Maryland residents who were sued in the state’s district courts between Jan. 15, 2007, and Jan. 15, 2010, by Midland Funding.

During that period, Midland was not a state-licensed debt-collection agency.

The state will notify people whose cases were dismissed.
