The Loudoun County School Board meeting abruptly entered a recess Tuesday night after parent activists attempted to serve the board with an affidavit over the district’s COVID-19 mandates.
Board Chairman Jeff Morse announced that the meeting would enter a recess shortly after Rene Camp announced the affidavit during the meeting’s public comment period and several students attempted to approach the board to deliver the papers.
Morse reacted harshly to Camp’s announcement by saying, “I am not being served,” before announcing the recess.

“We are … here today to serve you an affidavit, [to] which you must respond, showing us where in the Constitution you have been given the legal authority to trample on people’s rights,” Camp said as she announced the affidavit.

The meeting erupted in applause, drawing the ire of Morse, who loudly demanded that the crowded room quiet down.
Camp said the affidavit was a cease-and-desist order from parents and students demanding an end to the district’s mask and other COVID-19 mandates, the teaching of critical race theory, and several other grievances pertaining to gay and transgender ideology.
It was not clear if the cease-and-desist affidavit imposed any legal obligations on the board. Video of the meeting showed students carrying large stacks of papers to the front of the meeting hall.
