Looking to shake off the last vestiges of the winter blues? Let The Examiner sort through the choices for you. Here are our five best bets for fun this weekend.
Friday: Balkan Beat Box at the 9:30 Club
Fantastic beats from this group, founded by a former Gogol Bordello member Ori Kaplan. Expect high-energy, world-influenced sounds, and who the heck knows how many people may be onstage at any one time? With Bajah + the Dry Eye Crew. 8 p.m. doors. $20.
More of a morning person?: Doors to the annual Kegs & Eggs show are 7:15 a.m., and this year’s lineup features JET, Crash Kings, Andrew W.K. and Carbon Leaf. Free.

Friday: Rock & Roll Spelling Buzz at the Rock N Roll Hotel
It’s a spelling contest — at a rock ‘n’ roll club. Signup starts at 6 p.m., and 20 competitors are selected at 8. Winners get a bar tab; everyone else can still buy 16-ounce Pabst Blue Ribbon and a shot of whiskey for $6 until 10. Upstairs.
Can’t spell?: Downstairs features four acts, including Ramzy and The Method. Doors at 8 p.m. $10.

Through Sunday: Comedian Harland Williams at the DC Improv
He’s one of those hilarious characters you recognize when you see him. Best known for roles in the films “Dumb & Dumber,” “Half Baked” and “There’s Something About Mary,” Williams has made numerous appearances on television with Conan O’Brien and is at the DC Improv through Sunday. Shows at 8 and 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 8 p.m. Sunday. $22.
Need to know: During the earlier show, the Improv has its full menu available, which includes appetizers, burritos and sandwiches. Not so for the late show.

Through Sunday: ‘High Fidelity: The Musical’ at the D.C. Arts Center
If you think about it, the 1995 Nick Hornby book and 2000 John Cusack film “High Fidelity” is a great candidate for the musical treatment. Catch it at the DC Arts Center, put on by the Landless Theatre Company. 7:30 p.m. $25 at the door, $20 for DCAC members.
After the show: DCAC is in the heart of Adams Morgan, meaning plenty of post-show options, including Tryst and Asylum across the street.

Second City has a long history of catapulting the careers of popular comedians, most recently Stephen Colbert and Tina Fey. Who knows — the next big star might be at Wolf Trap on Saturday and Sunday. Show is at 7:30 p.m. both nights, tickets are $22.
Good to know: The Wolf Trap Young Professional Society is holding a mixer before the Saturday show. Visit the Wolf Trap Web site to learn more about this organization.
