Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, has made a decision on whether he will run for president in 2020, but hasn’t said what that decision is yet.
“Amy and I have made a decision about how we can best serve our country,” O’Rourke said in a statement Wednesday night, referring to his wife, Amy Sanders. “We are excited to share it with everyone soon.”
O’Rourke was the representative for Texas’ 16th district for three terms. He won national attention last year when he ran for Sen. Ted Cruz’s Senate seat in Texas and did better than most expected for a Democrat in the largely red state.
The 46-year-old former congressman told Oprah Winfrey earlier this month that he has “been thinking about running for president,” and is “excited at the prospect of being able to play that role.”
There are already a dozen Democrats running for a bid to take on President Trump in 2020.
