Nation’s highest-rated governor to endorse Christie

Republican Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts is expected to endorse New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie in an announcement on Friday, according to Christie’s campaign team.

Baker is the highest-rated governor in the country with a 74 percent approval rating as of last November.

Christie’s new gubernatorial endorsement is his third, including Maine Gov. Paul LePage and Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan.

Baker’s endorsement may have been helped along by Christie’s past chairmanship of the Republican Governors Association, which worked to funnell funds to Baker during his 2014 race.

The support of a top New England politician could serve Christie well as he heads into the New Hampshire primary next Tuesday.

Christie is ranked seventh in the Washington Examiner’s presidential power rankings, but has received a higher amount of support among Granite State voters, according to the average of recent polls figures.
