More Republicans trust President Trump than the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for medical information during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a new survey.
CBS News released the results of a poll of 2,025 U.S. residents on Friday that showed 80% of Republicans trust the president for medical information, while 74% of Republicans said they trust the CDC, which is part of the federal government.
The survey, conducted between Tuesday and Thursday with a margin of error of 2.6 percentage points, also found 37% of all U.S. residents trusted the president for accurate medical information; 78% said they trust the CDC. Scientists and medical professionals got a 86% trust rating.
The approval rating for Trump’s handling of the coronavirus dropped from 51% to 47% in the poll, compared to last week. The president’s approval rating for his response to the pandemic was at a high of 53% in March.
The president’s drop in approval for his handling of the outbreak echoes other polls, which had him at a slightly net positive approval rating at the end of March, but with a slightly net negative approval rating at the beginning of April, according to RealClearPolitics.
