After nine days off for exams, the Terps (7-4) return for what should be a cakewalk against New Jersey Institute of Technology (2-6), which is winless in six games against Division I teams as it continues to struggle with a transition to D-I. None of the top seven scorers for NJIT are taller than 6-foot-4. Jheryl Wilson, a 6-foot-3 guard, leads the Highlanders in points (11.1 pg) and assists (2.6 pg).

East Carolina at GW

Coming off its best win this season, 87-79 at Oregon State, GW (4-5) tries to get to .500 against East Carolina (7-4) of the Conference USA. The Pirates have not had a winning season since 1996-97, but have made strides under first-year coach Jeff Lebo. Freshman Robert Sampson (Bullis), the 6-foot-8 son of former Virginia great Ralph Sampson, is in the rotation for the perimeter-oriented Pirates.

Without leading scorer and rebounder, Mike Scott (ankle), Virginia had a brutal performance against Norfolk State, needing a tip-in by Assane Sene off a missed free throw to win, 50-49, on Monday night. Seeking its sixth straight win, Virginia (8-3) looks for improvement against Seattle (4-10), led by 6-foot-5 junior Aaron Broussard (14.9 ppg, 8.4 rpg), the Redhawks top scorer and rebounder.

GMU at Duquesne

The Patriots (8-2) haven’t lost a game in a month. They’ll try to run their winning streak to seven at Duquesne (5-4) of the Atlantic-10. The Dukes’ 6-7 Damian Saunders, the school’s all-time leader in blocks (236) and steals (218), will battle inside against Ryan Pearson (12.3 ppg, 59 FG percentage). The last meeting was in Nov. 2004, a 79-58 Mason win in Fairfax.

American at No. 7 Pittsburgh

The Eagles (7-4) continue to challenge themselves against elite competition. Pitt (11-1) will be the fourth team from a major conference that AU faces this month. The Panthers have frontcourt size and veteran guards in Ashton Gibbs (17 ppg) and Brad Wanamaker (12.4 ppg, 6 apg). AU F Vlad Moldoveanu hit 5-of-7 3-pointers in a 69-63 victory Monday at Mount St. Mary’s.

Elon at Navy

After playing 12 games, the most in the nation through Dec. 10, this is the only game for Navy (4-8) in a span of 19 days. Elon (4-7) is coming off a 98-72 loss at No. 1 Duke. Elon’s 3-point shooting helped get an 11-point lead over Maryland in the first half of a 76-57 loss last month. Navy senior A.J. Avworo has been nominated for the Bob Cousy Award, given to the nation’s best point guard.

Loyola at Howard

Injury-riddled Howard (1-8) has lost its last eight games — all by double-digit margins — despite the rise of sophomore G Anton Dickerson, who has averaged 20.5 points in the last four games. Loyola (4-6) of the MAAC has lost to Washington-area schools Georgetown, 99-75, and George Mason, 66-52. The Greyhounds are led by senior G Jamal Barney (11.2 ppg).
