Nobody was expecting them to play, but Mike Shanahan made it official anyway: safety LaRon Landry and corner Carlos Rogers will miss Sunday’s game at the New York Giants.
Running back Ryan Torain will be a game-time decision. But keep in mind: Torain has missed three straight games with a hamstring injury and has yet to practice in full; believing he’ll be ready by Sunday is a bit of a stretch.
Left tackle Trent Williams should be fine; he returned to practice Friday after missing Thursday because of a sore shoulder.
As for Landry’s return, Shanahan said he is not yet to the point where they want to put him on injured reserve. Shanahan said he hopes Landry can remove the walking boot next week.
“There’s hope,” Shanahan said. “Hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”
He also said Landry’s return would not be influenced by the record or playoff race.
With Landry out, Macho Harris could get his first game action. Second-year Kevin Barnes will take over the coverage in the slot from Rogers with Phillip Buchanon once more starting opposite DeAngelo Hall.
Meanwhile, for New York, starting C Shaun O’Hara and G Shawn Andrews as well as WR Hakeem Nicks were ruled out today.
