Reynolds ready for whatever

J.R. Reynolds understands his situation. The Virginia guard might get drafted; or he might not. He’s ready for whatever happens.

“I have backup plans,” he said. “I understand the draft is just one day and there are other routes if I go undrafted.”

However, Reynolds, who worked out for the Wizards Thursday in preparation for next Thursday’s NBA draft, has been consistently pegged as a second-round pick. Oregon’s Aaron Brooks, Cal State Fullerton’s Bobby Brown and Texas Tech’s Jarrius Jackson also worked out. Washington will work out Maryland’s D.J. Strawberry, among others, today.

Reynolds is an intriguing player because, at 6-foot-3 and 188 pounds, he can play either guard position. He averaged 18.4 points and shot 42.9 percent from the field as a senior.

“The game is changing,” Reynolds said. “Nobody is being defined as a point guard or a two guard. Players are interchangeable now and the versatility of a combo guard is great in the league. Now more teams want to go with an up-tempo pace and I think I would fit in well with that style of play.”
