Iowa poll: Donald Trump 1st, Ben Carson moves into 2nd

The post-debate shakeup in the polling of the GOP presidential field continues. While Donald Trump finished first in CNN/ORC’s new poll of Iowa voters, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson moved into second place.

Trump received support from 22 percent of likely Iowa GOP caucus-goers, followed by Ben Carson at 14 percent, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker at 9 percent, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz at 8 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Carly Fiorina tied at 7 percent. Carson’s rise in the polls pushed Walker down to third place.

Other interesting takeaways from the poll include that Fiorina performed better among self-identified Independents than self-identified GOP respondents. More respondents said they favored “no one” or had “no opinion” than the combined support of 2012 Iowa caucus winner Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

The poll surveyed more than 2,000 adults in Iowa and found that approximately two-thirds of them had yet to definitively make up their minds about whom to support. A plurality of men favor Trump in first place over Carson, while a plurality of women favor Carson in first place over Trump.
