Pastors offer solutions to city’s violent streets
More than 150 United Methodist pastors of the Baltimore-Washington Conference and more than 200 guests recently gathered at John Wesley United Methodist Church in Baltimore to hold a worship service for families who have lost relatives to violence in Baltimore City in 2007. During the service, church leaders presented “Hope for the City,” a strategy for Baltimore to help families affected by violence. The initiative included summer camp scholarships for children under 15 whose relatives are murder victims and free pastoral counseling to anyone who wishes to receive it.
After the worship service, participants walked to selected sites in the city where homicides have occurred.
