CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A popular farmers market is returning to the state Capitol complex.
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture says “Capitol Market at the Capitol” will open July 11, giving employees at the complex and local residents the opportunity to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.
Produce will be for sale every Wednesday through Aug. 1, when the market will close with a free sweet corn roast. Market hours are 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Agriculture Commissioner Gus Douglass says the market’s popularity has grown so much that some days, the line is “really overwhelming.”
The project is in its eighth year. It began as part of former First Lady Gayle Manchin’s Healthy Lifestyles Initiative and the state agriculture department’s efforts to promote farmers markets.
