It’s been about half a decade since Colin Kaepernick played in the NFL, but talk about the most infamous national anthem kneeler someday suiting up again continues.
The most recent conversation happened Monday on ESPN‘s First Take after Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott fractured his thumb Sunday night.
“It will never happen, in my opinion — might want to make that call to Colin Kaepernick. Might want to find out. Now, he ain’t been around, but he’s a playmaker with his legs who’s available. You got to take that into consideration,” Stephen A. Smith said.

Stephen A Smith thinks the Dallas Cowboys should give Colin Kaepernick a call, despite that he hasn’t played in over 5 years.
He says they won’t, though, not because he isn’t good enough but because Texas is too “patriotic.”

Smith said one reason why it wouldn’t happen is that it’s the Cowboys.
“This is in Texas, in the state of Texas. Patriotic individuals that they pride themselves on being since the whole Kaepernick situation was hijacked. That narrative was hijacked to them, it’s that — and Jerry Jones is not going to let that get in the way of business, but I would think about it. I would say that.”
Co-host and former Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin disagreed.
“Let’s stop with this Colin Kaepernick stuff. Let’s just stop. Colin Kaepernick’s been out of football for what, five years now?” Irvin said. “Come on, man. Let’s stop all of a sudden thinking we can go resurrect Colin Kaepernick and he’s going to come and resurrect a football team. I’ll take my chances with Cooper Rush. I will take my chances with Cooper Rush,” he said.
Kaepernick, now a father, recently worked out with the Las Vegas Raiders.
