Steve Himmelrich, founder and president of public relations company Himmelrich Inc. in Baltimore, has a simple business motto.
“We just want to do good work that makes sense for the client,” Himmelrich said. “We could have ?scored? some really big media, but it wasn?t going to be in the best interest of the client. If it?s not the best decision for them, we aren?t going to do it.”
Himmelrich founded the company in 1997 after working in public relations in the Baltimore area. He started working with museums and agencies, including the Downtown Partnership and the Maryland Science Center.
Now, his four-employee firm serves a long list of clients.
The company demonstrated its capability through extensive work with the Maryland Science Center, Himmelrich said.
“I think we have been very helpful in transforming the image of the science center,” he said. “It was a thoughtful, deliberate, ongoing, coordinated process to change Baltimoreans and visitors? perception of the center.”
Chris Cropper, the Science Center?s marketing director, agreed.
“The image before was of a science center that had been unchanged for 30 years,” he said. “When we expanded, we also had the opportunity to essentially change all the exhibits, so what we launched was an all-new Maryland Science Center.”
Interns have played a large role in improving Himmelrich from the inside out.
“It?s great for us to have interns around,” Himmelrich said. “When we have to explain things, it requires us to think about what we are doing. We?re always looking to learn more, and having interns is a great way for us to learn what else there is out there.”
Most importantly, Himmelrich said, it?s about liking what you do. “It?s important to us to like what we do every day and like who we work with every day,” he said. “This is what I do, this is what I know.”
