The Redskins didn’t find their answer at left guard yesterday. But they found another option.
Washington signed offensive lineman Ross Tucker, who played for the Redskins in 2001, to a one-year deal. Tucker did not play last season after getting released by Cleveland on the final cuts.
Tucker has made 25 career starts, including 16 at left guard, with 13 coming in 2004.
Tucker played one season for Gregg Williams, now the Redskins’ defensive boss, in Buffalo.
Tucker needed back surgery after the 2004 season and was cut in training camp. He played one game with New England in 2005 and stayed on the Patriots’ roster throughout the playoffs.
“[The Redskins] didn’t mention [starting],” Tucker said. “They just said it’s a good opportunity and I’m not taking it any further. I’m a football historian, so the opportunity to play for a Hall of Fame coach, and if such a thing existed, a Hall of Fame offensive line coach, is really exciting.”
