Planned Parenthood gets thousands of donations in Mike Pence’s name

Planned Parenthood says it is receiving thousands of new donations in the name of Vice President-elect Pence.

The women’s healthcare provider said that of about 160,000 donations in the last few days, 20,000 were made in Pence’s name, or about 12 percent. Donors are rushing to give to the women’s health and abortion provider after last week’s GOP victories, which could threaten its federal funding once President-elect Trump takes office next year.

Every time a donation is made in Pence’s name, the Indiana governor receives a “certificate of donation” congratulating him on the donation.

Pence, a Republican who strongly opposes abortion rights, signed a number of anti-abortion laws as Indiana’s governor, including a measure that required the remains of miscarried or aborted fetuses to be interred or cremated.

Planned Parenthood hasn’t released details on the total amount of money it has received since Election Day.
