Former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA) is making a second run for the White House.
According to ABC News, Santorum will be sitting down Wednesday with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos to discuss his intentions and how he thinks he can stand out in the crowded 2016 GOP field.
His interview with Stephanopoulos comes as a shock to many conservatives who wanted to block Stephanopoulos from receiving any interviews with candidates after his controversial donations to the Clinton Foundation. The Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus has already announced that he will not allow Stephanopoulos to moderate a GOP debate.
Santorum is set to announce in Cabot, PA, near his childhood home. He represented his home state in the Senate from 1995 to 2007 until he lost to current Sen. Bob Casey Jr.
Having already run in 2012, Santorum is hoping to regain his momentum with the Christian conservatives and blue-collar workers that propelled him to win 11 states. He came in second place to Mitt Romney in the Republican primary last time around.
But so far he’s having trouble gaining traction.
Despite his previous second place showing, Santorum is currently only polling at 2.3 percent, according to Real Clear Politics.
Santorum joins six other announced Republican candidates including, Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Rand Paul, Mike Huckabee, Ben Carson, and Carly Fiorina.
