Might Michelle Obama choose another dress from a designer with ties to the country she will host for the White House state dinner ?
Back in November, the first lady chose a champagne strapless dress by Indian-American designer Naeem Khan for the first state dinner (Though the most-remembered outfit at the event happened to be a bright red sari.)
Yeas & Nays interviewed Khan the day before the dinner, when he gushed about his submissions to the White House.
Mexican-American designer Louis Verdad, born in Chicago, would be a sound choice for the first lady to honor Mexican President Felipe Calderon and his wife.
Verdad told the Los Angeles Times in October that his spring 2010 collection was inspired by Michelle Obama at a show for L.A. Fashion Week. All of his models were black and he showed a video montage of Obama, Oprah Winfrey and Janet Jackson.
His silhouettes were described as clean, and the details as “not overdone or heavy-handed.”
“His use of cream and ivory looked striking against the models’ dark skin and for Verdad seemed to signify a fresh start or rebirth in his design career,” the Times reported.
Verdad has dressed Eva Longoria Parker, Madonna and is a favorite of Vogue Editor Anna Wintour.
He did not respond to a request for an interview.
