Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal will visit the Capitol on Thursday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office announced.
Shmyhal will meet with Pelosi, a California Democrat, as well as a bipartisan group of lawmakers.

Shmyhal’s visit will make him the most senior Ukrainian official to visit the United States since Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of the country.
News of the meeting comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced Monday that Russia has begun an offensive in the Donbas region of the country, a territory the Kremlin sees as crucial to its goals.

Sen. Steve Daines of Montana and Rep. Victoria Spartz of Indiana, both Republicans, recently visited Kyiv, the first U.S. lawmakers to do so since the start of the war. Spartz is the first Ukrainian-born member of Congress.
