“House of Cards'” Spacey mocks Congress on ‘Colbert Report’ appearance

Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey may be one leader of a fictional Congress, but the Emmy-nominee took a stab at the real-life Congress Wednesday night.

Spacey appeared on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” to discuss the wildly popular Netflix series “House of Cards,” where he plays House Majority Whip Frank Underwood (D-S.C.). Though Underwood may have his hand in the majority of Congress’ wheelings and dealings, Spacey noted he has managed to escape the selfishness of both Hollywood and Washington, but snuck in a quick jab at the 113th Congress.

“[House of Cards is] obviously a fictional show because it’s also a Congress that gets s**t done,” Spacey said.

Colbert joined in, taking a quick swipe at the Republican party.

“Is your character focused on the important stuff, like repealing Obamacare?” the host asked. “Are there any votes on that yet?”

House Republicans have attempted to repeal the healthcare law more than 38 times, and GOP senators are working to defund the legislation, proposing a continuing resolution to shut down the federal government.

“Oh, actually in our first season,we passed an education bill. Yea, so amazing,” Spacey said.

The “House of Cards” star received an Emmy nod for his role as Underwood, and the show — only available on Netflix — received nine nominations. However, Colbert was quick to remind Spacey that though the show has seen tremendous success, he hasn’t received the Emmy yet.

But Spacey attempted to change that, walking over the Colbert’s mantle and swiping one of several Emmy’s Colbert received for “The Colbert Report.”
