Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) says the Republican Party needs to be more welcoming to Ron Paul supporters if it wants to reinvigorate the Republican Party.
In a speech at the Cato Institute Paul said he told fellow members of the GOP “there was a whole new positive response of all these new people.”
“I keep trying to convince the Republican Party, you may not like everything that he’s presented, but at least appreciate that your electric is getting bigger, your party is getting bigger,” he said.
Paul called for the party to unite and be more welcoming to non-traditional Republicans.
“You need to welcome the Ron Paul people because they are people who may have been unhappy with both parties or have been Libertarians or been Constitution parties or been Independent parties, but they’re coming in and you need a bigger party.”
Since being elected to the US Senate in 2010, Paul has quickly become an influential force in the Senate. He has also served as a bridge between his father’s movement and a GOP Establishment that was previously unreceptive to the Paul revolution – a role his father’s supporters hope he continues to play after his father retires from Congress at the end of this year.
