The former treasurer for an international fraternity organization in D.C. was sentenced to time served of nearly three years in prison for stealing more than $50,000 from the organization.
Terry Davis, 43, formerly of Herndon, had been convicted in 2007 of bank fraud and other charges in the theft of more than $200,000, but the D.C.. Court of Appeals reversed those convictions last year after determining that the jury was allowed to hear testimony that it shouldn’t have. Davis had been behind bars for two years.
Davis pleaded last year to one-count of bank fraud. He admitted that from 2001 and 2003, while he was elected the national treasurer of Phi Beta Sigma, he stole money from the fraternity’s bank accounts by writing checks and forging the signature of the president of the organization, prosecutors said. He will have to pay $50,000 in restitution.
