Mount St. Mary’s (3-2) at No. 16 Georgetown (4-0)

Apparently, federal law requires that the Mount be described as pesky. It’s likely due to Five-foot-9 Jeremy Goode (16.6 ppg, 4.2 apg). He isn’t Earl Boykins, but he doesn’t give up. Goode’s backcourt partner, Fairfax native Jean Cajou (14.4 ppg), is the team’s second leading scorer. Mount St. Mary’s top five scorers are all juniors and seniors, and they were picked as preseason favorites in the Northeast Conference for the second straight season. Last year they lost in the NEC final to Robert Morris.

Look for Goode to hang out at halfcourt, begging for quick outlets and easy transition buckets on Georgetown misses. Last December, he did just that, and the Mount gave the Hoyas fits. Kelly Beidler also scored 15 of his team-high 16 points after halftime as Mount St. Mary’s cut a 14-point Georgetown lead down to six with under five minutes to play. But Georgetown was too strong, scoring 25 points at the line and getting an all-around game from Chris Wright (19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals) in a 69-58 victory.

Leading quote from that game from Georgetown head coach John Thompson III: “I’m not sure if I’m pleased with anyone right now. Maybe I’ll change my mind after I look at the tape. We did not play well… I think that mentally we had a bad day today, which is not good.”

As for the Hoyas tonight, they had six players score in double-figures for the first time under Thompson in their 98-64 blowout of Lafayette over the weekend. Equally impressive was the fact that they shot 61 percent from the field, including a perfect 6-for-6 from the field by freshman Hollis Thompson (16 points).
