Autopsy provides no clues in deadly boat crash

BOLTON LANDING, N.Y. (AP) — An autopsy has provided no clues as to what caused a deadly boat crash on Lake George.

John Michaels of Bolton Landing, a prominent home builder and philanthropist, was driving a new 21-foot Steiger when it hit rocks and trees along the shoreline of the lake. The wreck happened last Friday night.

Police said the 57-year-old suffered massive trauma and was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital. He was the only person on the boat.

Warren County coroner Tim Murphy performed the autopsy and says Michaels did not suffer a heart attack or any catastrophic medical emergency before the accident.

State police say toxicology tests to check for alcohol and drugs in the victim’s body could take up to four months to complete.
