President Trump continues to have confidence in Attorney General Jeff Sessions despite recent reports that the two have sparred over the Justice Department’s handling of the Russia investigation, White House deputy press secretary Sarah Sanders said Thursday.
“Absolutely,” Sanders replied when a reporter asked her whether Trump still had confidence in Sessions, one of his longest-standing supporters.
Sanders specified that the president has confidence in all his Cabinet members.
Earlier this week, she and press secretary Sean Spicer raised eyebrows when neither could affirm Trump’s confidence in the attorney general. Both said they had not yet spoken with Trump about the situation, so they declined to speak about their relationship definitively.
But Sanders said Thursday that she had had a conversation with the president about his attitude toward Sessions.
“I had one last night,” she said.
