The National Rifle Association is up in arms over the White House’s executive actions on gun control, telling Fox News Thursday night that the president is trying to convince Americans that he’s improving public safety but is actually working to distract the public from his administration’s folly.
“This president’s trying to create an illusion that he’s doing something to keep people safe. He needs to do that because the truth is his policies have failed miserably,” NRA Executive Director Chris Cox told Megyn Kelly. “We saw that materialize itself in San Bernardino when we had a terrorist attack. This president didn’t use it as an opportunity to unite this country. He didn’t use it as an opportunity to lay out a plan to defeat terrorism. He used it as an opportunity to impose more gun control on law-abiding citizens.”
The NRA spokesman said the White House’s decision to tighten background checks and revoke the right to sell some weapons at gun shows was uninformed.
Data from the Department of Justice indicates 0.7 percent of criminals purchased their firearms at gun shows, Cox said, emphasizing the decimal.
Cox added that all of the mass shootings that have taken place in recent years had one thing in common: “every one of those murderers passed [Obama’s] background checks.”
It’s true: None of the president’s orders would have stopped any of the recent mass shootings #GunsInAmerica
