Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich urged President Trump and House Republicans not to vote on the American Healthcare Act Friday because it’s an unpopular piece of legislation.
“Why would you schedule a vote on a bill that is at 17% approval? Have we forgotten everything Reagan taught us?” Gingrich tweeted.

The bill, which would repeal and replace parts of the Affordable Care Act, is staring the down the barrel of a gun as it faces more and more defections from the Republican Party. In the face of unanimous Democratic dissent, it’s possible the bill will fail Friday.
The White House has pressed House Speaker Paul Ryan to go ahead with a vote on the bill, which is scheduled for later Friday afternoon.
About seven hours before urging Trump and Ryan not to have a vote on the bill, Gingrich said Trump should be praised if it passes.
