U.S. voters see North Korea as a greater threat to national security than the Islamic State, according to a Morning Consult/Politico poll released Wednesday.
The July 7-9 survey found 40 percent of registered voters believe Kim Jong Un’s country is more dangerous than the Islamic State, while only 30 percent respondents said ISIS was the bigger threat.
Another 16 percent of voters cited Russia as the biggest security concern, while 5 percent pointed to China and 3 percent said Iran.
The majority of voters trust President Trump to handle the situation with North Korea, which successfully launched an intercontinental ballistic missile earlier this month. But 44 percent of people do not believe Trump will handle the foreign policy issue well.
Voters said foreign relations have gotten worse with North Korea and Russia under Trump’s leadership, though the survey did not pinpoint Trump as the reason for the decline.
The online poll was conducted with 1,983 registered voters nationwide and had a 2 percentage point margin of error.
