Facebook to cosponsor Trump’s Republican Convention

Facebook is defying the demands of activist groups who want corporations to pull their sponsorship of the Republican National Convention, since Donald Trump is all but guaranteed to receive the party’s nomination.

ReCode reported that that the social media giant will participate in both the RNC and DNC’s conventions in order to allow users to remain engaged in the political process.

“This support allows Facebook to facilitate an open dialogue among voters, candidates and elected officials during the conventions,” Facebook’s vice president of public policy Erin Egan said in a statement. “Just as it has during other critical moments in the U.S. elections and in elections around the world.”

Facebook’s decision to remain involved in the RNC Convention is especially shocking because the company’s CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg has indirectly criticized Trump for his position on immigration.

The social media company has also received criticism from progressive groups who don’t want any technology companies like Facebook, Google, or Microsoft to support anything to do with the billionaire nominee.

Last week, activists held a #DumpTrump rally outside the Google headquarters urging the company to the search engine website to pull his speech from being streamed on YouTube.

Google, like Facebook has decided to ignore the protestors.
