This might be a late Christmas present for President Obama.
Pollsters are suddenly showing an uptick in Obama’s job approval ratings in the new year.
For example, a recent CBS News poll conducted between January 9 and 12 found that the president’s overall job approval rating has increased seven percentage points since last October.
According to the survey, Obama’s current approval rating sits at 46 percent, while an equal percentage of Americans disapprove of the job the president is doing to lead the country.
When the results are broken down by party, 45 percent of Independents approve of Obama’s job as president, while only 13 percent of Republicans approve and 75 percent of Democrats approve.
Considering the share of Independents looking favorably at Obama has increased by 11 percentage points since October, these individuals appear to be most responsible for the spike in the president’s approval.
Likely, these are the Independents who lean left, not those who lean right.
Likewise, a Gallup Daily analysis shows that 46 percent of Americans currently approve of the job the president is doing.
However, more — 48 percent — still disapprove of Obama.
The president is set to deliver his annual State of the Union address next Tuesday. Perhaps his remarks will move his approval rating — in one direction or the other.
