A woman who says failed Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore pursued a romantic relationship with her when she was a teenager and he was in his 30s has announced her intent to run as a Democrat for a Florida House seat.
Deborah Gibson said she plans to run for a Florida House seat in the 89th District, which is currently held by Republican Rep. Bill Hager.
“The past 5 months have crystallized what’s been coming to me for a decade more gradually— the Republican Party is no longer the right fit for me,” Gibson said in a statement on a fundraising page on Crowdpac.com.
“I am proudly running as a Democrat,” she added.
Gibson came forward last year with a wave of women who accused Moore of pursuing romantic relationships with them while they were teenagers and he was in his 30s.
Gibson’s relationship with Moore started when the former Alabama judge spoke at her high school.
Moore lost the Senate race to Democrat Doug Jones last December.
