Libertarian presidential candidate defends tying Trump deportation plan to Holocaust

Libertarian presidential hopeful Gary Johnson says he “absolutely” stands by former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld, his pick for vice president, comparing Trump’s deportation plan to Kristallnacht, the infamous night of violence toward Jews in 1938.

Weld doubled down on his comments in an interview with CNN Sunday, saying, “If we don’t remember, we absolutely will forget. And you’ve got to forget a lot of things to think it’s a good idea to round up and deport 11 million people.”

Johnson, the former governor of New Mexico, stood by Weld and further blasted Trump for perpetuating “misinformation.”

“What are we going to do?” Johnson told CNN. “Is my door going to be knocked down because I’m going to get checked for papers and with regard to deporting 11 million illegal immigrants?”

Jonhson said there are community leaders in New Mexico today who are illegal immigrants “who have had children who have had children.”

“It’d be like putting them on the moon,” Johnson said.
