In a new poll from CBS, 53% of the respondents said Congress needs to drop the investigation into Russian meddling and move to other issues. Fifty-eight percent also said they had heard enough about the report from the special counsel’s investigation, which was headed by Robert Mueller.
Among Democrats, 73% say the investigation into Russian meddling during the 2016 presidential election needs to continue. This is an increase from when the question was asked in March.
Seventy-four percent said Mueller should testify to Congress to discuss the findings in the report, which Americans are split on. Thirty-one percent said the report cleared him of any wrongdoing, and 33% said the report does not clear him. Thirty-two percent said it was too soon to decide if it does.
The report said during their two-year investigation, they did “not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.” The investigation’s report did not make a determination whether President Trump obstructed justice.
In his memo about Mueller’s report, Attorney General William Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein then concluded Trump did not commit obstruction of justice.
