State Dept. condemns Tel Aviv terrorist attack

The State Department on Wednesday condemned a terrorist attack in Tel Aviv that killed four Israelis and injured six others earlier in the day.

“The United States condemns today’s horrific terrorist attack in Tel Aviv in the strongest possible terms. We extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and our hopes for a quick recovery for those wounded. These cowardly attacks against innocent civilians can never be justified. We are in touch with Israeli authorities to express our support and concern,” deputy spokesman Mark C. Toner, said in a statement.

Two Palestinian gunmen dressed in suits opened fire on civilians at an outdoor cafe in central Tel Aviv late Wednesday. The suspects were detained by Israeli police, and one of the individuals is being treated at a hospital for a gunshot wound. The Daily Mail said the gunmen purposely disguised themselves as “ultra-orthodox Jews.”

Four of the six people wounded have been listed as in critical condition. Among those killed was a four-year-old girl, according to local police.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but investigators have determined the two shooters are cousins and both from the city of Hebron.

About 31 Israelis and two Americans have been killed by Palestinian attacks over the past eight months.
