Towson University’s standout wide receiver Tommy Breaux will not play against Delaware on Saturday after injuring his right foot during the team’s loss against Massachusetts this past Saturday, Towson coach Gordy Combs confirmed Thursday night.
Combs said the 6-foot-9, 210-pound junior will meet with a podiatrist either Thursday or Friday to learn the extent of the injury after x-rays taken this past Saturday night were inconclusive, Combs said.
“All I know right now is he’s out against Delaware, but after that I can’t speculate,” Combs said. “We’ll know more after he meets with a podiatrist.”
Breaux sustained the injury when he landed awkwardly after trying to make a catch against the Minutemen, Combs said. Breaux walked off the field and did not return to the game. Combs said Breaux is not using crutches, but does have a soft, boot cast on his foot.
Breaux has made 11 catches for 166 yards in his first year of year with the Tigers after transferring from Blinn Junior College in Texas. The catches and yardage are third highest on the team. Breaux also is a standout forward on the basketball court, averaging 5.9 points and 4.5 rebounds in 31 games last winter.
Breaux’s injury comes at a time when the Tigers need him the most. Towson, 2-1 overall and 0-1 Colonial Athletic Association, is entering the toughest part of its schedule. Four of its next fiveopponents, beginning with Saturday’s home game against 3-0 No. 11 Delaware, have a combined record of 10-3.
“You hate to see something like this happen because he’s been playing great,” Combs said. “We just want to get him back as quickly as possible.”
