[WATCH] Chris Matthews: When are we going to have ‘Killing O’Reilly’

President Barack Obama sends a thrill up MSNBC “Hardball” host Chris Matthews’ leg, but Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly does quite the opposite for Matthews, who suggested America was waiting for “Killing O’Reilly.”

Matthews appeared on “The Colbert Report” on Wednesday night to discuss his new book, “Tip and the Gipper.” During the segment, Colbert asked Matthews why he didn’t name the book “Killing Tip and the Gipper,” a reference to the titles of Fox News host Bill O’Reilly’s books “Killing Lincoln,” “Killing Kennedy” and most recently, “Killing Jesus.” Though the question was seemingly harmless, Matthews’ response elicited quite the reaction from audience members.

“When are we going to have the book we’ve really been waiting for, ‘Killing O’Reilly?'” Matthews told Colbert, as viewers countered with a mix of shock and awe.

The “Hardball” host’s book details the relationship between former President Ronald Reagan and Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill. Though Matthews’ is an outspoken advocate for President Barack Obama, he had surprising thoughts on Reagan’s presidency compared to Obama’s when asked who was a better president.

“Do you think Reagan was a better president than Obama is?” Colbert asked Matthews.

“In the end, yes,” Matthews responded. “In the end. Because he ended the Cold War. That’s hard to beat.”
