Florida State University conducted a mock election on Nov. 2, which resulted in a 55.85 percent landslide win for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. He was followed by Democrat candidate Hillary Clinton, who polled at 32 percent, and Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson who reached 10 percent.
Florida Republican Marco Rubio also won his U.S. Senate race, receiving 67.33 percent of the student vote against Democrat candidate Patrick Murphy.
The mock election was hosted by the College Republicans and College Libertarians and was supervised by an FSU faculty member. Students voted both remotely online and at a polling location in front of the university’s library. 658 FSU students voted in the election, with 53 percent identifying as female and 45 percent identifying as male.
“College students are assumed to be liberal in nature, but this mock election shows otherwise,” said Cade Marsh, Chairman of the Florida Federation of College Republicans. “We are expecting unprecedented and historic results [on Nov. 8th] as college students cast their ballots.”
“Students are rejecting liberal bias and PC-culture in record numbers,” Marsh added.
According to a press release sent out by the Florida College Republicans, the poll numbers seen in this mock election reflect the CR’s 2016 effort to bring millennial voters into the party.
