James Comey, the former FBI director, said though he was once a Republican, his peers in the GOP will no longer talk to him now that he’s come out fully against President Trump.
“Most Republicans don’t talk to me anymore,” Comey said Saturday in an interview with Katie Couric at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Aspen, Colo. “I’ve succeeded in pissing off everyone.”
Comey said that he laughs at public remarks Trump makes about how he should have been charged with a crime. But he also said that he feels he and much of the public are becoming “numb” to Trump’s controversial comments and actions in office.
Comey said in the interview that he shared a hug with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who worked under President Obama, after he had been fired by Trump.
He also said it was “painful” to read the recently released portion of the FBI inspector general report that was critical of Comey’s behavior as FBI director. The report said Comey was at times “extraordinary and insubordinate.”
