Meet the man who beat out 14 Republicans for Boehner’s district

A self-described Tea Party conservative was declared the winner of a special election primary to replace former House Speaker John Boehner in Ohio’s 8th District.

Warren Davidson beat out 14 other Republicans to secure the Republican nomination. Davidson will face uncontested Democratic candidate Corey Foister and Green Party candidate James Condit Jr. in the special election this June.

The West Point graduate and family business owner has been endorsed by a number of leading conservative groups and individuals, including Freedomworks, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Club for Growth and the Senate Conservatives Fund.

“The Club for Growth PAC congratulates Congressman-elect Warren Davidson on his hard-fought victory tonight,” Club for Growth President David McIntosh said in a statement late Tuesday. “With a strong message of economic freedom, Davidson came out ahead of a field of 15 candidates, including some career politicians. The Club’s PAC is especially thrilled that Warren Davidson will enter the fight for economic liberty almost immediately.”

All three candidates will face off in the special election June 7. The winner will be up for re-election Nov. 8 because Boehner’s resignation was effective Oct. 30, 2015, making a special election necessary. Experts expect the northeastern Ohio district is expected to go to a Republican.
