Clinton campaign bashes Trump for hiring Mr. Citizens United

Hillary Clinton’s campaign bashed Donald Trump’s hiring of former Citizens United President David Bossie as its deputy campaign manager Thursday.

“David Bossie is so craven and maniacal that in the heyday of the overreaching, Gingrich-era Congress, the top Whitewater conspiracy theorist in the House had to fire him for doctoring evidence,” Hillary for America Chair John Podesta said in a statement late Thursday.

Podesta, a former operative in the Obama administration, criticized the Republican nominee for hiring someone who has devoted his career to tearing down Clinton, though Podesta did not say who else he would have expected Trump to hire.

Citizens United has been “acting as an arm of the Trump campaign” for months, Podesta claimed.

Trump has self-funded much of his campaign and sold himself as someone who is not in bed with special interests and corporate donors though he himself is the owner of a billion-dollar international real estate corporation, the Trump Organization.

Podesta did not mention the well-known Supreme Court case that made Citizens United a household name. Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders regularly condemned Citizens United during his Democratic candidacy for president earlier this year for allegedly taking the democratic process out of the people’s hands.
