Michigan Republican party chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is slated to succeed Reince Priebus as head of the RNC next year, according to a statement from President-elect Donald Trump, after she was named deputy chair Wednesday.
“I’m excited to have a highly effective leader in Ronna McDaniel as RNC deputy chair and I look forward to her serving as the party’s chairman in 2017,” Trump said. “Ronna has been extremely loyal to our movement and her efforts were critical to our tremendous victory in Michigan, and I know she will bring the same passion to the Republican National Committee.”
An RNC release stated that Romney McDaniel would be named deputy and Trump’s Ohio campaign chief Bob Paduchik would be deputy co-chairman. It was reported earlier this week that the niece of Mitt Romney would get the president-elect’s backing for the top post. While the RNC’s executive committee still has to formally vote her to the position in January, it’s typically the incoming president’s prerogative to select the party chair.
“Honored to have the support of President-elect @realDonaldTrump and excited to work with RNC members to ensure we maintain our GOP victories,” she tweeted after the news was released.
