Texas Gov. Greg Abbott encouraged Republicans Monday to vote for Donald Trump in order to deny Hillary Clinton the presidency, and predicted that Trump would win the general election vote in his home state.
“Donald Trump is going to win the state of Texas,” Abbott said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” despite Sen. Ted Cruz’s big victory in the primary there in March.
Abbott had previously endorsed Cruz, a fellow Texan, but now says it’s important to defeat Clinton after Cruz exited the presidential race. He called Clinton the “wrong choice” to repair a broken economy.
“I made it clear from the very beginning that I would be supporting whoever the Republican nominee is,” Abbott said. “As we work our pathway forward … we see the devastation that Hillary Clinton will wreck upon the United States of America.
