Hillary Clinton had a pithy response to news on Thursday that fired FBI Director James Comey used a personal email account to conduct official bureau business.
“But my emails,” Clinton tweeted.

The development was revealed in a report released Thursday by the Justice Department’s Office of the Inspector General as part of the internal watchdog’s investigation into the FBI’s handling of its probe into Clinton’s private email server.
The report from Inspector General Michael Horowitz offered five examples of Comey using a Gmail account, even though DOJ issued a policy in 2016 preventing that practice.
Comey told the IG he did so because “I did not have an unclass[ified] FBI connection at home that worked.” But he did not use his personal email or laptop for classified or sensitive information, Comey said.
Clinton campaign aides from her 2016 bid for president joined their former boss in expressing their indignation over the perception of a double-standard.
“The bad judgement. The hypocrisy. The irony,” campaign manager Robby Mook tweeted.
“Comey did an oped to prebut the IG report. But he neglects to mention or explain the IG’s finding that Comey himself used personal email for official business,” former national press secretary Brian Fallon added, referring to Comey’s piece in the New York Times.
The IG report also found Comey was “insubordinate” and “affirmatively concealed” his intentions from Justice Department leadership during the investigation into Clinton’s private emails.
