As Tysons tunnel plans make headway, area residents question elevated walkway

Published

I’m glad to see the Fairfax Board of Supervisors getting behind the local push to put more of the Metro extension through Tysons underground. As I’ve written in this space, I think that the elevated segment of track will defeat many of the things that supporters of development in Tysons had hoped to accomplish. The walkability of the area will be diminished, and that’s one of the big pushes. Plus, the number of residents and companies that will want to have trains right outside their windows is probably pretty low.

A tunnel is worth the effort and it’s worth the wait, but it’s not worth killing off the project in toto.
