David Axelrod: Tom Steyer impeachment ad ‘unhelpful’

David Axelrod, former top adviser to President Obama, said the push to impeach President Trump by Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer is doing more harm than good.

On Twitter Saturday, Axelrod said Steyer’s TV ads urging Congress to impeach Trump appear to be done for selfish reasons.

“Steyer impeachment ads seem to me more of a vanity project than a call to action,” Axelrod said. “It is-at least this point-an unhelpful message. If impeachment becomes a political tool, it will be as damaging to our democracy as the degradations @realDonaldTrump has inflicted on it.”

Axelrod’s tweet echoed what some other prominent Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., have said about impeachment threats having an adverse affect on the country.

Steyer is running a multi-million dollar TV ad campaign that pushes Congress to vote for impeaching Trump.
