Burned Md. firefighters in stable condition

Two Bladensburg Volunteer firefighters injured during a Riverdale blaze Friday remain in critical but stable condition.

Ethan Sorrell, who sustained burns to his airway and can only communicate by writing notes, is dependent on an apparatus to breathe. Doctors will determine Monday when to remove the apparatus to diagnose the full extent of his injuries.

Kevin O’Toole suffered burns to 40 percent of his body and will soon undergo skin grafts. O’Toole faces six weeks in the burn unit at Washington Hospital Center and six months of intensive therapy.

Five other fire fighters were treated and released for injuries sustained while attempting to extinguish the flames.
