A stranded sea lion who found itself on a freeway in San Diego backing up traffic on Friday was guided to safety by good Samaritans.
The sea lion was miles from the ocean and needed help getting to the other side of the road, according to a report.
One driver stuck on the freeway captured the moment two good Samaritans cleared the way for the marine animal to make it across Route 94, west of Interstate 805.

“I see the two amazing humans stopping traffic,” said Josefine Jandinger. “Trying to save [the] seal, trying to have the seal walk to the other side of the road.”
The two individuals exited their vehicle and directed traffic around the animal, Jandinger said.
The sea lion was reported around 10 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said, and officers had to run traffic breaks to ensure the animal’s safety.
“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen,” Jandinger said.
It is rare to get a call regarding sea lions on a freeway, according to Eric Otjen, the head of SeaWorld San Diego’s rescue team.
“This is a pretty unique situation. We don’t often get calls about a sea lion on a freeway,” Otjen said. “We don’t know exactly how he got here … This is a pretty cool rescue, so we feel good.”
Although sea lions have been rescued in the past, officials are uncertain how the sea lion made it so far inland, according to Otjen.
“This is the weirdest, though,” he said. “This is probably the most dangerous situation one has been in, at least in a long time. We were just glad we were able to get out here and take care of things.”
