Just like Ike? Eisenhower granddaughter backs Fiorina

The granddaughter of former President Dwight D. Eisenhower endorsed Carly Fiorina Tuesday, less than 24 hours after current Hewlett-Packard CEO Meg Whitman dismissed her predecessor as too inexperienced to lead the country.

“As the granddaughter of the last political outsider to serve as President, I am certain Carly Fiorina’s dynamic background and record of results will bring much-needed leadership to the White House,” Mary Eisenhower said Tuesday in a statement released by the pro-Fiorina super political action committee, CARLY for America.

“America should have a leader that is familiar with all the tools that are available to fix problems. Like my grandfather, Carly is not afraid to disrupt the status quo and get things done to make this country a global leader once again,” she added.

Eisenhower, who previously served as chief executive of the nonprofit People to People International and has a track record of experience working on humanitarian and educational initiatives, also cited Fiorina’s “invaluable experience within the non-profit realm” as a reason she’s decided to back the female Republican hopeful.

“Her leadership with charities like Opportunity International and Good360 has helped radically change lives around the world by bringing 21st century solutions to perennial problems like poverty, disaster relief and need,” Eisenhower said.

Fiorina has been endorsed by three congressional lawmakers and several state legislators, but has yet to be publicly backed by any sitting U.S. senator or governor. She has fallen to sixth place in the Washington Examiner’s presidential power rankings after slipping in several national polls and failing to deliver the same standout performance in the third GOP debate as she had in the previous two
