Mitch McConnell calls for ethics review of Al Franken sexual assault accusation

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., on Thursday called for the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate allegations that Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., forced himself on a radio broadcaster during a USO tour in 2006.

“As with all credible allegations of sexual harassment or assault, I believe the Ethics Committee should review the matter,” McConnell said in a statement.

“I hope the Democratic Leader will join me on this,” McConnell added. “Regardless of party, harassment and assault are completely unacceptable — in the workplace or anywhere else.”

McConnell’s call came soon after Franken was accused of groping Leeann Tweeden in 2006. Tweeden released a picture of Franken grabbing her breasts on a plane while she appeared to be asleep.
