Ruggs, 22, was reportedly driving a Chevrolet Corvette at about 156 mph on Tuesday morning when he collided with a Toyota RAV4, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Police arrived on the scene to find the Toyota aflame, and firefighters removed the dead victim, a 23-year-old woman, from the vehicle, authorities said.

The National Football League star stayed on the scene with “signs of impairment,” authorities said.

Ruggs was taken to a hospital and had non-life-threatening injuries.

He faces charges of DUI resulting in death and reckless driving, according to court documents.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 26 years in state prison.

Attorneys for Ruggs asked that members of the public “reserve judgment until all the facts are gathered,” and they will be performing their own investigation of the events.
